Constitutional Talks
Published 28th November 2008, 2:44pm
The Cayman Islands Government announced yesterday, 27 November 2008, that the second round of the constitutional talks has been postponed.
The HRC shares the concern that this postponement may jeopardize the timetable for significant progress for constitutional reform. However, the HRC is also wishing for the speedy recovery for our Sister Islands and the Leader of the Opposition as well. To enable these important talks to progress, it is imperative to have full participation from all parties concerned.
As the organization vested with the promotion and protection of human rights in the Cayman Islands, the HRC remains on hand and committed to participate in the process of constitutional reform. The HRC trusts that as soon as scheduling permits the talks will be rescheduled -hopefully early in the New Year before the Legislative Assembly is dissolved in March 2009.
